How is the update done? There is no update instruction anywhere.
I am running JCS 1.5.7 - do I have to overwrite the files on the server with the update files by ftp?

There is short instruction in the download section, yes all you need just overwrite files by FTP, run component on backend and frontend, check update.php file if not deleted that delete it. And the last, if needed correct your language file.

PS: very important, do backup before updating, as for files as for tables.
